Attack On Titan Military Police

Attack On Titan Military Police

Let's be honest, there's a certain appeal to order and authority, especially in a world spiraling into chaos. We see it in our fascination with crime dramas, our respect for first responders, and, yes, even in our somewhat begrudging appreciation for the Military Police Brigade from Attack on Titan. While the show focuses heavily on the Survey Corps bravely battling Titans beyond the walls, the Military Police, stationed safely in the inner district, represents a different kind of order, or at least, the promise of it.

In a nutshell, the Military Police, or MP, are supposed to be the guardians of humanity within the walls. Their primary purpose is to maintain law and order, protect the royal family, and generally ensure that society runs smoothly. Think of them as the regular police force, but, you know, with slightly more epic (and often dubious) power. The benefits of this – in theory – are immense. A well-functioning MP provides security, allows for the stable growth of infrastructure, and ensures that resources are distributed (again, in theory) fairly. They're the gears that keep the machine of human civilization turning within the relative safety of the inner walls.

We see the MP at work in various ways throughout the series. They're tasked with everything from investigating petty crimes and quelling public disturbances to escorting nobles and managing the flow of resources. A common example is their presence during expeditions outside the walls, where they're supposed to provide support and maintain order amidst the chaos. However, as we all know (and as Eren Yeager loves to point out), the reality often falls far short of the ideal. The MP's comfortable position within the walls often leads to corruption, complacency, and a general lack of interest in the plight of those living in the outer districts. Think of them as that department at work that gets all the perks but delivers very little.

So, how can we better appreciate the MP, even with all their flaws? Well, firstly, try to understand their perspective. Living in relative safety for generations, shielded from the horrors of the Titans, it's easy to see how they might become detached and self-serving. Secondly, consider the logistical challenges of maintaining order in a society constantly on the brink of collapse. It's not an easy job, even if they make it look like one.

To truly enjoy the MP as characters, focus on the individuals within the brigade. There are those, like Annie Leonhart, who are driven by their own complex motivations. Understanding these individual stories adds layers to the overall narrative and prevents us from simply dismissing the entire brigade as corrupt. Appreciate the internal conflicts, the power struggles, and the moral ambiguities that plague the organization. It's this complexity that makes them compelling, even when we're rooting for Eren to punch them in the face (which, let's be honest, is often). Finally, remember that even in a world threatened by giant, man-eating monsters, the day-to-day tasks of maintaining order and enforcing laws, however flawed, are essential for survival. The Military Police, in their own imperfect way, are a necessary evil in the world of Attack on Titan.
