Binding Of Isaac Something Wicked This Way Comes

Okay, let's talk about The Binding of Isaac. Specifically, its Halloween-themed update, "Something Wicked This Way Comes." Now, before you grab your pitchforks (or, you know, your Mom's Knife), hear me out. I think… I think it's a little overrated.
I know, I know. Heresy! Blasphemy! Throw me into the Basement! But hold on! I love Isaac. I really do. I've sunk countless hours into unlocking every character, beating every boss (multiple times), and staring blankly at the screen after another heartbreaking run.
But "Something Wicked This Way Comes"? It just doesn't quite reach the heights of, say, the Repentance update. And that's my unpopular opinion, laid bare for all to see.
Must Read
The Theme is… Fine
Don't get me wrong, the Halloween theme is fun. Jack o' lanterns! Spooky enemies! A general sense of dread and impending doom! (Okay, that last one's always there in Isaac, but you know, more of it!).
But honestly, how much does the theme really change the gameplay? You're still shooting tears at gross things. You're still hoping for a lucky Devil Deal. You're still panicking when you realize you’re on one heart and have no bombs.

I’m not saying the spooky visuals are bad. They're not! It's just… after a few runs, the novelty wears off. The spooky season feeling fades, and you're left with, well, more Isaac. Which, again, is generally a good thing! But still…
The Items? Hit or Miss (Mostly Miss)
Let’s talk about the items. Every update brings new toys to play with, and “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is no different. But are they good toys? That’s debatable.
Some are decent. Some are even great! But let’s be honest, most of the new items end up being “Oh, great, this is gonna ruin my run” kind of items. You know the feeling. You see a new item, get excited, pick it up, and then immediately regret every life choice that led you to that moment.

We've all been there, right?
The Hype Train Derailed?
Maybe I was just expecting too much. Maybe the hype leading up to the update set my expectations impossibly high. Maybe I just had too much candy corn that week. Whatever the reason, "Something Wicked This Way Comes" just didn't blow me away.

It's not a bad update. It’s Isaac! There's no such thing as a truly bad Isaac update (except maybe that one where they… no, never mind). But it’s not a game-changer. It's more like a… pleasant addition. A nice little sprinkle of spookiness on an already chaotic and addictive game.
And hey, maybe I'm completely wrong! Maybe you adore "Something Wicked This Way Comes." Maybe it's your favorite update. And that's totally cool! We can still be friends. Even if you think I'm crazy.
But for me? It's just… eh. Good, but not great. A solid 7/10. Would play again, but probably while listening to Christmas music. (Just kidding… mostly).

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I'm going to go play another run of Isaac. Maybe this time I'll finally get that elusive Godhead unlock. Or maybe I'll just die on the first floor to a Peep. You know, the usual.
And maybe, just maybe, I'll find a newfound appreciation for "Something Wicked This Way Comes." But probably not.
