December Weather In Fort Worth Texas

Okay, so last December, I was convinced it was going to be a white Christmas. I even bought a ridiculously oversized, fuzzy white hat. (Don't judge, it was on sale!) I envisioned sipping hot cocoa, building a snowman...the whole shebang. Reality? I ended up sweating in a light jacket while trying to untangle Christmas lights. Texas, you crazy, predictable paradox, you. Which brings me to the real topic: December weather in Fort Worth.
Fort Worth weather in December is...well, it's an adventure. Think of it as a weather grab bag – you never really know what you're going to get. Unlike some places that are predictably snowy or predictably dreary, Fort Worth throws a little bit of everything into the mix. Variety is the spice of life, right? Or maybe just the spice of December.
The Temperature Tango
Let's talk temperatures. The average high in December hovers around the 50s Fahrenheit (that's like, 10-15 Celsius for our international friends). But don't let that fool you! We've had Decembers where it's been 70 degrees one day and then plummeted to freezing the next. Seriously, it’s thermal whiplash.
Must Read
Nights, naturally, are colder. Expect lows to dip into the 30s, which means you'll definitely need a decent jacket, gloves, and maybe even that ridiculous white hat I mentioned earlier (okay, maybe not the hat). Think layers! Layers are your best friend. They're like the Swiss Army knife of clothing.
Rain, Shine, or Something in Between
Precipitation? Yes, we get it. Usually not a ton, but enough to keep things interesting. Rain is the most common culprit, but every now and then, we get a tease of snow or sleet. It's usually gone by lunchtime, but it's enough to send everyone into a frenzy, stocking up on bread and milk like the apocalypse is upon us.

And speaking of the sky, expect a good mix of sunshine and cloud cover. Some days are bright and sunny, perfect for a stroll through the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Other days are overcast and moody, ideal for curling up with a good book and, you guessed it, hot cocoa.
Windy City? Sort Of
Fort Worth isn't exactly Chicago, but December can bring its fair share of wind. It's not usually gale-force winds, but enough to make your hair do that wild-and-crazy thing and remind you that you probably should have brought a hat. Again, layers, people! Layers! (Are you tired of hearing about layers yet? Sorry, not sorry.)
What to Expect (and What Not to Expect)
So, what should you actually expect in December in Fort Worth? Pack for anything. Seriously. Check the forecast religiously, but be prepared for it to change. Bring a light jacket, a heavier coat, gloves, a scarf, and maybe even sunglasses (you never know!). And, while dreaming of a white Christmas is fine, don't hold your breath.
What shouldn't you expect? Guaranteed anything. Consistent weather is not in Fort Worth's vocabulary. And definitely don't expect to predict what the next day will bring. The only thing you can count on is the unexpected.

Ultimately, December in Fort Worth is what you make of it. Embrace the unpredictable, enjoy the occasional sunshine, and be prepared for anything. And if all else fails, just blame the weather on Texas. We do it all the time. ;)
P.S. If you do happen to be in Fort Worth during a rare snow event, send me a picture! And maybe build a snowman for me, since I'll probably be inside, wrapped in a blanket, complaining about the cold.
