Okay, let's talk. Let's talk about movies. Specifically, let's talk about Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.

Is It Okay to Not Love a Classic?

Here's the thing: Some movies are considered classics. They're supposed to be hilarious. Everyone raves about them, right?

But what if... you just don't get it? What if Ashtray and Loc Dog leave you feeling…meh?

My Confession: It's Just Not THAT Funny

I know, I know. People are going to come for me. They'll say I lack a sense of humor. They'll tell me I don't understand the brilliance of the Wayans brothers.

But honestly? I've tried. I’ve watched Don't Be a Menace multiple times. Each time, I wait for the laugh-out-loud moment everyone describes.

It just doesn't happen for me. I’m sorry. It feels like a series of sketches strung together.

Over-The-Top Can Be…Tiring?

The movie is definitely over-the-top. That’s the point, I guess. It's a parody of hood films, exaggerating every stereotype.

But the constant barrage of ridiculousness? It gets exhausting. It feels like they’re trying too hard sometimes.

Maybe I’m just not a fan of this particular brand of humor. Maybe I prefer my parodies a bit more subtle.

The Characters: Exaggerated to the Extreme

Ashtray going back to live with his grandma? Grandma smoking weed and rocking curlers? Sure, it's a visual gag. But does it make me laugh? Not really.

Loc Dog's obsession with weapons? The ridiculous names? It's all meant to be funny. I get it.

But the characters feel more like caricatures. They're so over-the-top they become almost… annoying.

Am I Missing Something?

Maybe it's a generational thing. Maybe you had to be there, watching it when it first came out. Maybe the context is crucial.

I wasn't. I saw it later. Perhaps that’s why I’m not as enthusiastic about it.

Or maybe, and this is a radical thought, humor is subjective. What one person finds hilarious, another might find…meh.

Respect the Classic, But…

I respect Don't Be a Menace. I understand its cultural significance. I acknowledge the Wayans brothers' talent.

I just don't find it that funny. And that’s okay, right? It's okay to have an unpopular opinion.

It's okay to admit that a movie everyone else loves doesn't quite do it for you.

It's Not Hate, It's Just… Not Love

I’m not saying it’s a bad movie. It's just not my cup of tea. I wouldn’t actively discourage someone from watching it.

I'm just saying, don't be surprised if I don't join you in quoting it endlessly. My brain is wired differently.

There are other comedies that tickle my funny bone more effectively. Airplane!, maybe? Or Naked Gun?

So, There You Have It

I’ve said my piece. I’ve confessed my unpopular opinion. I’m ready for the backlash.

But maybe, just maybe, there are others out there who feel the same way. Others who find Don't Be a Menace… mildly amusing at best.

If you’re one of those people, let me know. We can form a support group. We can watch other comedies and laugh our heads off. Together.

"Did you see that movie with the guy and the juice?" "Yeah, it was... a movie."
