Fire Keeper Soul Dark Souls 3

Okay, so, Fire Keeper Souls in Dark Souls 3. Right? We gotta talk about 'em. You find one, and suddenly you're faced with a moral dilemma. Or, you know, a gameplay one. Potato, potahto.
What Are These Things, Anyway?
Essentially, these are the... well, the souls of Fire Keepers. Pretty self-explanatory, huh? They're not exactly walking around anymore, let's just say that. You find these scattered around Lothric, usually in places that have seen better days. Think crumbling ruins, forgotten crypts, the usual cheerful locales.
But the real question is, what do you do with them? That's where things get interesting... and a little bit creepy, if you ask me.

Give 'Em to the Fire Keeper... For a Price
You can give these souls to your Fire Keeper back at Firelink Shrine. Sounds nice, right? Like a charitable donation. Nope. Dark Souls doesn't do nice. What it does do is let you… enhance her.
Specifically, giving her a Fire Keeper Soul lets her heal the Dark Sigil. Remember those lovely little things you get from Yoel of Londor? Yeah, those that make you go hollow? She can, uh, fix you. For a price, of course. Souls are involved. Always souls.

So, it's basically like saying, "Hey, Fire Keeper, here's the essence of your dead colleagues. Now use it to... un-hollow me? Is that... ethical?" Maybe not. But hey, gotta survive, right?
The Dark Side: A New Ending, Perhaps?
Now, here's where it gets really spicy. There's another option. Remember the Eyes of a Fire Keeper? If you give those to the Fire Keeper and then give her a Fire Keeper Soul, things get... interesting.
Basically, you unlock a whole new ending. One where the Fire Keeper... extinguishes the flame. Completely. Permanently. Leaving the world in darkness. Pretty metal, huh?

Is it the best ending? That's debatable. I mean, perpetual darkness doesn't exactly scream "happily ever after." But hey, at least you're breaking the cycle, right? Maybe? Okay, maybe not. It's Dark Souls. There are no happy endings, just varying degrees of depressing ones.
Which Fire Keeper Soul? They Matter!
Don't think you can just chuck any Fire Keeper Soul at her and expect the same result! Nope! Each Fire Keeper Soul comes from a different Keeper and unlocks different dialogue and potential effects.

For example, the Fire Keeper Soul from the Untended Graves is...special. Let's just say you'll get a unique dialogue prompt and potential outcome with your Fire Keeper. So be warned! Not all souls are created equal.
So, What Should You Do?
That, my friend, is the million-soul question. Do you want to cure your hollowing and keep playing the "normal" game? Do you want to unlock the secret ending and plunge the world into darkness? Or do you just want to keep hoarding them because, well, they're shiny?
There's no right or wrong answer. (Except maybe hoarding them. That's just weird.) It all comes down to your personal preference, your build, and how much you enjoy existential dread.

Personally? I usually go for the ending that upsets the status quo. Because, let's be honest, the status quo in Dark Souls is pretty grim to begin with.
But hey, that's just me. What about you? How do you handle those Fire Keeper Souls? Let's hear it in the comments! (Assuming we're even still sane after playing this game…)
And remember, praise the sun... or extinguish it completely. Your call!
