Our First Christmas As Mr And Mrs Svg Free

So, we survived. Our first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs. Svg Free. It was...an experience. Let's just say the holiday season got a whole new level of 'interesting' now that we have joint bank accounts and shared decorating responsibilities. Who knew tinsel could cause so much marital discord?

The Great Tree Debate

First, the tree. He wanted a real one. All "rustic charm" and "pine-fresh scent." I, on the other hand, envisioned a pre-lit, perfectly symmetrical, artificial masterpiece. Less mess, more control. We compromised. We got a real tree. That promptly shed needles everywhere. I'm not bitter. Okay, maybe a little.

He swore he'd clean up every single needle. Still waiting, honey.

Ornaments: A Clash of Styles

Then came the ornaments. Apparently, Mr. Svg Free has a deep emotional attachment to every single ornament he's ever owned. There was the slightly mangled gingerbread man from third grade. The faded, glitter-encrusted reindeer his grandmother made. I tried subtly suggesting we maybe, just maybe, incorporate a few new, aesthetically pleasing additions. He just looked at me with those puppy-dog eyes. The gingerbread man and the reindeer lived to see another Christmas.

The "Perfect" Christmas Dinner

The dinner was another adventure. My vision involved a perfectly roasted turkey, glistening with golden-brown skin, surrounded by Instagram-worthy side dishes. His vision involved...well, honestly, I'm not entirely sure what his vision was. He offered to make the gravy. Let's just say there were some, uh, texture issues. Gravy is not supposed to resemble wallpaper paste. I won't name names, but someone may have panicked and added too much cornstarch. We ordered pizza.

The Gift-Giving Gauntlet

Then, the gifts. Now, I pride myself on being a thoughtful gift-giver. I spend weeks, sometimes months, searching for the perfect present. He...well, he's more of a "last-minute rush to the mall" kind of guy. I got him a handcrafted leather wallet. He got me...a Snuggie. A bright pink, fuzzy Snuggie. I smiled. I thanked him. I may have secretly donated it to a local charity the next day.

My Unpopular Opinion: Christmas Cards are Overrated

And speaking of gifts, let's talk about Christmas cards. Here's my unpopular opinion: Christmas cards are an archaic waste of paper. Seriously. I love the sentiment, I do. But who actually reads all those lengthy updates about people's kids' achievements and exotic vacations? They end up in a pile, then eventually in the recycling bin. I tried suggesting we skip them this year. He looked at me like I'd suggested we cancel Christmas altogether. We sent out Christmas cards. I may have kept mine short and sweet: "Merry Christmas! Hope you're well!" No vacation details included.

The In-Law Invasion

Of course, no first married Christmas is complete without the in-laws. I love them, I really do. But spending three days crammed into a small house with both sets of parents is...challenging. Especially when they all have very different opinions on everything from politics to proper Christmas carol etiquette. Let's just say the eggnog was flowing freely. We needed it.

Surviving and Smiling

Despite the chaos, the disagreements, and the wallpaper-paste gravy, we made it. Our first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs. Svg Free. It wasn't perfect. It wasn't Pinterest-worthy. But it was ours. And that's what really matters, right? We learned a lot. Like, I should probably just make the gravy myself next year. And maybe invest in a good needle-collecting vacuum. And that a Snuggie, no matter how pink and fuzzy, is a gift given with love (I think).

So, here's to many more Christmases together. Filled with laughter, love, and maybe just a little bit of organized chaos. And hopefully, some slightly better gravy. Happy Holidays!
