The Beatles: Get Back 3-disc Blu-ray Collectors Edition

Okay, Beatlemaniacs. Let's talk. That glorious, sprawling, eight-hour documentary, The Beatles: Get Back? We all watched it. Some of us multiple times. And now? Now it's got a fancy 3-disc Blu-ray Collector's Edition. Shiny! But, and hear me out, does it really need to exist?
Don't get me wrong. I adore The Beatles. They're practically musical royalty. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job with the documentary. Seeing them bicker, jam, and ultimately create magic? Riveting. The rooftop concert alone? Legendary.
But...
Here's my potentially unpopular opinion: is this Blu-ray set just…overkill? Think about it. We already have the whole shebang on Disney+. It's there. Whenever we want it. In glorious HD. With subtitles! So, why shell out more cash for something we essentially already own?

I know, I know. "But the picture quality!" "The uncompressed audio!" Look, I'm not knocking audiophiles. If you've got a home theater system that could rival a small cinema, then, yeah, maybe you'll appreciate the difference. But for most of us watching on our perfectly adequate TVs? Are we really going to notice that much improvement? I'm skeptical.
And let's be honest, how many times are we really going to sit down and watch eight hours of Beatles footage again? I mean, I love them, but I also have a life. Laundry needs folding. Binge-worthy reality TV beckons. Even John Lennon probably wouldn't watch eight hours of himself in one sitting.

The Collector's Edition does promise bonus content. Deleted scenes! Behind-the-scenes glimpses! All the stuff that didn't quite make the cut. But let's be real, isn't there a reason it didn't make the cut in the first place? How many "deleted scenes" are truly worth watching? Usually, they're deleted for a reason. I'm picturing a lot of awkward silences and tuning guitars.
"I'd rather have a Blu-ray of 'A Hard Day's Night' restored in 4K!" – My inner film snob.
The other thing is the sheer commitment required. Popping in a Blu-ray feels...permanent. It's like saying, "Okay, world, for the next eight hours, I'm unavailable. I am communing with Paul McCartney's basslines." Whereas, with Disney+, you can just casually dip in and out. Watch a segment while you're eating lunch. Catch the rooftop concert while you're waiting for the pizza to arrive. No pressure.

Maybe I'm just being cynical. Maybe I'm missing the point. Perhaps the joy is in owning a tangible piece of Beatles history. A physical artifact that you can proudly display on your shelf, next to your vinyl collection and your Yellow Submarine lunchbox. I get it. Collectibles are cool.
But still…eight hours. On Blu-ray. When it's already streaming. It feels a bit…much. I can see the marketing meeting now: "How can we squeeze more money out of this already massively popular documentary?" "I know! A Blu-ray Collector's Edition!"

So, am I saying don't buy it? Not necessarily. If you're a die-hard completist, a serious collector, or just have a burning desire to own every single piece of Beatles-related merchandise ever created, then go for it. Your money, your choice.
But for the rest of us? Maybe, just maybe, we can be content with streaming it on Disney+. Save our money for something truly essential. Like a new pair of headphones. Or a ticket to see a Beatles tribute band. (Okay, maybe not. But you get the idea.)
And who knows? Maybe in another year, they'll release a 4K Ultra HD version with even more bonus content. And then we'll really have to make some tough choices. For now, I'm sticking with Disney+. And maybe a cheeky YouTube compilation of Beatles bloopers. That seems manageable.
