There Are Two Things Mitsunari Does Not Deserve

Okay, so let's talk about Ishida Mitsunari. You know, that guy from Sengoku era Japan? The super loyal one? Yeah, him. He's a complicated dude, right? I mean, history hasn't exactly been kind. But honestly, there are two things that Mitsunari definitely doesn't deserve, and it's time we talked about them.
Being Called Utterly Incompetent
Seriously! People act like Mitsunari was just… disastrous at everything. Like, he tripped over his own feet every time he tried to breathe. Okay, maybe he wasn't the most charismatic leader, alright? He was more of a meticulous planner, a brilliant administrator. You know, the brains of the operation. And every good strategy needs a good brain.
Think of him like the Chief of Staff. Not the rockstar general, but the person who makes sure the trains run on time. Does that sound incompetent to you? I think not! Plus, the dude managed the finances of Hideyoshi's whole operation! Talk about responsibility.
Must Read
Was he maybe a bit... rigid? Fine, yeah. Socially awkward? Perhaps. But disastrously incompetent? Come on! Give the guy some credit. He held the Toyotomi regency together for as long as he could, despite everything. He tried his best and he was a very capable person.
Let's not forget he was up against Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was basically playing 4D chess while everyone else was still trying to figure out checkers. Anyone would struggle against that!

The cards were stacked against him, people! So, let's retire the "utterly incompetent" label, shall we? Pretty please?
The "He's Just a Fanboy" Dismissal
This one really gets my goat. So many people reduce Mitsunari's loyalty to Hideyoshi to some kind of obsessive fandom. Like he's just a lovesick puppy or something. Please do me a favor and just take a good look at the man's actions, he's being loyal not just for loyalty's sake, but also because he believes in the greater good, and the continuation of what Hideyoshi built.
Okay, yes, he was devoted to Hideyoshi. Unquestionably. But it wasn't some shallow crush. Their relationship was way more complex than that.

Hideyoshi saw something in Mitsunari. He recognized his talent, his dedication, his unwavering commitment to justice. And Mitsunari, in turn, saw Hideyoshi as a visionary leader who had brought peace and prosperity to the land.
This wasn’t about posters on a bedroom wall or writing fan fiction (though, can you imagine?). This was about shared ideals, mutual respect, and a deep-seated belief in a common goal. And that goal was about peace and prosperity.

Plus, reducing it to "fanboyism" ignores the political implications. Mitsunari was protecting the Toyotomi clan, the legacy of Hideyoshi, and the stability of the country! He had very specific reasons.
So, let’s ditch the "fanboy" narrative. Mitsunari’s loyalty was a cornerstone of his character, but it was rooted in something much deeper than simple admiration. His loyalty was for the greater good.
So, there you have it. Two things Mitsunari absolutely did not deserve. He wasn't an idiot, and his loyalty was way more profound than some teenage crush. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go defend Mitsunari's honor on the internet. Wish me luck!
