Victorious Theme Song Lyrics

Victorious Theme Song Lyrics

Okay, let's talk Victorious. We all loved it. And let's be real, the theme song, "Make It Shine," was undeniably catchy. But, (braces self) is it actually good? I'm about to commit some pop culture blasphemy.

The Lyrics: Are They... Deep?

Let's dissect those lyrics. "Here I am, once again. I'm torn into pieces." Right off the bat, we're hitting you with angst. Torn into pieces? Girl, you're auditioning for a performing arts school. Not battling interdimensional demons.

Then we get, "Have my heart, in my hand." A little dramatic, don't you think? I get the metaphor. Vulnerability! Artistic expression! But, like, chill. Maybe put your heart back in your chest. It's safer there.

And the iconic, "I can make it shine." The ultimate declaration of self-belief. Which is great! Empowering! But also, a little cheesy? I'm not saying it's bad cheese. More like a mild cheddar. Still good on a cracker. Just... not a gourmet gorgonzola.

The chorus is where it gets interesting. "I can make it shine. I know I can make it shine." Repetition! Affirmation! Brainwashing! Just kidding. (Mostly.) It's definitely effective. Try getting that out of your head. I dare you.

But what does "make it shine" actually mean? Fame? Success? A really impressive jazz hands routine? The ambiguity is both its strength and weakness. It's relatable because it can mean whatever you want it to mean. But it also lacks a certain... specificity. Like, give me something concrete, Tori! Are you going to write a hit song? Win an award? Or just finally learn to parallel park?

The Other Songs: Low-Key Better?

Here's where my controversial opinion really shines (pun intended). Some of the other songs from Victorious are arguably better. I'm talking "Freak the Freak Out," "Beggin' on Your Knees," even "Leave It All To Shine" (the crossover with iCarly. Don't act like you didn't love it.)

Those songs have more... personality. They're funnier, quirkier, and often more musically interesting. "Make It Shine" is a solid power ballad, sure. But it's also a safe power ballad. It's designed to appeal to everyone. Which it did! But sometimes, aiming for everyone means hitting no one in particular, really hard.

Take "Beggin' on Your Knees," for example. Revenge anthem? Totally. Over-the-top? Absolutely. More memorable? You bet! It's a song you can scream in your car. "Make It Shine" is a song you sing softly to yourself while staring wistfully out a window.

The Nostalgia Factor

Okay, let's be honest. A huge part of the appeal of "Make It Shine" is the nostalgia. It instantly transports you back to 2010. To a simpler time. When skinny jeans reigned supreme and everyone was obsessed with pear phones. We associate it with the show, with the characters, with the feeling of being a teenager trying to figure things out.

And that's perfectly valid! Nostalgia is a powerful drug. But should nostalgia blind us to the song's (admittedly minor) flaws? I say, maybe not!

My Unpopular Conclusion

So, am I saying "Make It Shine" is a terrible song? Absolutely not. It's catchy. It's uplifting. And it's undeniably iconic. But is it the best song from Victorious? In my humble (and probably wrong) opinion... no. It's a perfectly fine theme song. But some of the other musical moments on the show deserve a little more love.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go listen to "Freak the Freak Out" on repeat and brace myself for the backlash. And maybe try to learn to "make it shine" in my own, slightly less dramatic, way. What can I say? I am definitely torn into pieces.

(But also, secretly really proud of my unpopular opinion.)
