We all know Food Wars!, right? The anime where foodgasm is a legitimate plot device? The one with all the exploding clothes and over-the-top reactions? Yeah, that one. It’s a wild ride.

And it's on Crunchyroll! Which is awesome. More anime is always awesome. But here’s the thing…

I kinda… maybe… prefer the English dub.

Dub vs. Sub is an age-old debate. Some people swear by the authenticity of subtitles. They want to hear the original actors, the true emotion. And that's totally valid! I get it. Respect.

But sometimes, I just wanna eat my snacks and watch anime without having to read super fast. My eyes get tired! And sometimes, those subtitles disappear for, like, half a second during a crucial food-based epiphany. The horror!

Why the Food Wars! English Dub Works (For Me)

Okay, so why the Food Wars! dub, specifically? It's the energy! The over-the-top ridiculousness! The sheer commitment to the bit!

Think about it. The whole show is bonkers. We're talking about dishes that literally make people see things. Naked angels, samurai battles, transforming dragons made of vegetables! The English dub embraces the absurdity with open arms. It’s not trying to be serious. It’s FUN.

The voice actors are clearly having a blast. They’re hamming it up, and it works. They deliver those ridiculous lines with such gusto that it’s infectious. I can't help but laugh along with them.

Take Soma Yukihira, for instance. His English voice actor brings this kind of cocky, carefree confidence to the character that I just adore. He sounds like he genuinely believes he can cook his way out of any situation, even if it involves questionable ingredients and questionable cooking techniques.

And let's not forget Erina Nakiri, the God Tongue herself. The English dub captures her snobbishness perfectly, but also hints at the vulnerability beneath the surface. You almost feel sorry for her… almost.

The Food Puns! Oh, the Food Puns!

Another reason I love the English dub? They get to play around with the food puns! Translation is a tricky business. Sometimes, jokes just don't translate well. But the dub writers get to be creative and come up with new, equally terrible, food-related puns. It's a beautiful thing.

I mean, come on. A perfectly timed pun can elevate a scene from good to glorious. And in a show about food, puns are practically mandatory.
